Jo Dong-rim (Korean: 조동림; born March 25, 1985),[2] better known by the stage proper name Mad Clown (Korean: 매드클라운), is a S Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He debuted with the single "Luv Sickness" in 2008[iii] and released his starting time extended play, Anything Goes, in 2011.[4] He bankrupt into the mainstream post-obit the release of "Stupid in Love," his hit 2013 collaboration with Soyou of the girl group Sistar.[5] He has since released the extended plays Ferocity (2014),[half-dozen] Piece of Mine (2015),[7] Honey is a Dog From Hell (2017),[8] and 0 (2020).[9]

Early on life [edit]

Jo Dong-rim was born but outside of Chicago in Evanston, Illinois on March 25, 1985. He and his parents moved back to Southward Korea when he was around one year old. His family sent him back to the U.Southward. to study when he was 14. Growing up he was heavily influenced by Rapper 2Pac. He was pursuing a degree in Sociology in the U.S. but later left his studies to continue to pursue music.[ane]

2008-2012: Debut and early on career [edit]

Mad Clown debuted in 2008 and released his first EP in 2011.

2013-2018: Starship entertainment, collaborations, and television approximate [edit]

He has worked on several collaborations, including Stupid in Love with South Korean singer Soyou from the S Korean group Sistar, released on September 10, 2013.[x] [ unreliable source? ]

On March 28, 2014, Starship Entertainment appear on their Twitter business relationship that Sistar's Hyolyn would characteristic in Mad Clown'due south comeback runway, "Without Y'all".[xi] [ unreliable source? ] The music video for "Without You" was released on Apr 3, 2014.

On December 12, 2014, Mad Clown featured on "Anxious" by Melody Day.[12] [ unreliable source? ] In December, he also began working as a mentor on No.Mercy, a survival show of trainees from Starship Amusement which led to the formation of Monsta X.[13] In 2015, he featured on Jooheon of Monsta 10'due south beginning mixtape, SUPEXX.[14] [15]

Mad Clown released his third extended play Piece of Mine in January 2015.[xvi]

In 2016, he was a judge and producer for the fifth season of Prove Me the Money.[17] [18]

In 2018, Mad Clown did not renew his contract with Starship.[nineteen] That twelvemonth, he also participated in the seventh season of "Testify Me The Coin" under the alias of "MOMMY SON", donning a pinkish ski mask to cover his appearance. After being eliminated from the testify, he released the vocal, "Shonen Bound (ft. Bae Gisung)" in mock retaliation against those who eliminated him. He besides performed the vocal during the filming of the final episode of the show.

2019-present: New characterization, more than collaborations, further releases [edit]

In Jan 2019, Mad Clown collaborated with Stella Jung, releasing the single "No Question".[20]

In September 2020, Mad Clown announced his offset EP following his deviation from Starship. The album, titled 0, volition be released on Oct 6 through Sameside Company and has four ballads.[21]

Personal life [edit]

Mad Clown married his not-glory wife on May 15, 2016, after a year of dating.[22] He has a child.

Mad Clown'due south brother is flick and television receiver role player Jo Hyeon-cheol (Korean: 조현철). Hyeon-cheol appeared in the 2016 films The Tunnel and Master, and on the 2017 TV bear witness Argon.[23]
